I'm a bride-to-be looking for speech ideas for my father. What kind of things should he include, who should he thank etc?
Traditionally, the Father of the Bride, is the host and so welcomes all the guests and offers a toast to the bride and groom. However, since many decide to forego tradition, the father of the bride could perhaps speak of his dreams for his daughter, his first impressions of the groom, his joy at them deciding to marry and of his wishes for them as a couple.
If your mother does not wish to speak, your father should make his speech inclusive of her. If they have been married happily, he might wish the same gift for you and your husband.
It should be positive and uplifting, spoken from the heart, with at least one funny anecdote and perhaps a word of wise advice such as, always forgive, remember your commitment to one another and always be each other's greatest support.
